The set protocols spanning-tree force-version command sets the version of the spanning tree protocol on a switching device.

Command Syntax

set protocols spanning-tree force-version <0 | 2 | 3 | 4>

force-version <0 | 2| 3 | 4>

Specifies the version of the spanning tree protocol. The value could be 0, 2, 3 or 4.

  •   0: Indicates the STP mode.
  •   2: Indicates the RSTP mode.
  •   3: Indicates the MSTP mode.
  •   4: Indicates the Rapid-PVST+ mode.

The default spanning tree protocol is MSTP.

Usage Guidelines

A switch has four operation modes: Rapid-PVST+, MSTP, RSTP, and STP. On the network running a spanning tree protocol, switches running different spanning tree protocols cannot communicate with each other. As a result, spanning trees cannot be properly calculated.

  • Set the version of the spanning tree protocol to Rapid-PVST+.
